GYMNASTICS

Our Commitment to Safety and Development

Safety is our top priority. Gymnastics requires focus, discipline, and concentration. Our program is designed to provide a safe environment where gymnasts can enjoy learning age-appropriate skills. Progression is based on each participant’s fitness, conditioning, and ability level, so it’s important to focus on your child’s individual improvement, rather than comparing them to others.

Beyond skill-building, we believe in developing good character. Our coaches strive to teach and model the values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. These principles help shape not only better gymnasts but also better family members, leaders, and community members.

Parent with Child
walking to 3yo

LITTLE FLIPPERS - This class is designed for toddlers and young children who are walking up to age 3, accompanied by a family member. In this relaxed, informal setting, children have the freedom to explore and engage in activities at their own pace. While coaches are available to offer guidance and support, they do not lead the class, allowing the child to take the lead in their own learning and play.

Preschool Lessons
3 to 5yo

MAT MUNCHKINS - This introductory program focuses on building foundational gymnastics skills on vault, bars, beam, and floor. Emphasis is placed on repetition, turn-taking, and following basic instructions—all while having fun!

School Age Lessons
6yo+

ROLLERS & SWINGERS In this program, gymnasts focus on developing strength, flexibility, and gymnastics skills on vault, bars, beam, and floor. Correct technique and form are key to progressing to more advanced skills. 6-17yo

BACK HANDSPRING CLASS - This class focuses on tumbling, beginning with foundational skills like back walkovers and progressing toward back handsprings. As these skills are mastered, students will then work on linking them to more advanced moves, such as round-offs, and continue to develop other higher-level tumbling techniques. 6-18yo

Adult Classes

This exciting class is perfect for both beginners and experienced gymnasts. Whether you’re learning new skills or brushing up on old ones, we’ll focus on all four events with the guidance of our experienced coaches. No prior gymnastics experience is needed. If you’re interested, there will also be opportunities to compete in gymnastics meets!

Private Lessons

Individualized lesson plans are offered for gymnasts of all levels. To sign up for 1-On-1 or Buddy lessons, submit a request form at the YMCA welcome center or online.

YMCA Progressive Gymnastics Program

WELCOME

We are excited to have your gymnast join us. Please take a moment to review the important information and guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

  1. Dress Code: Gymnasts must wear a leotard or properly fitting shorts with a tucked-in t-shirt. Please note the following:
    • No shoes or baggy clothing.
    • No nylon tights that cover the feet.
    • No bare midriffs. If this dress code is not followed, gymnasts may be asked to sit out certain events.
  2. Hair: Hair must be tied up if it is shoulder-length or longer for safety reasons.
  3. Prohibited Items: Jewelry and chewing gum are not permitted during class.
  4. Arrival: Please arrive on time and ready for class. We recommend using the restroom before class starts.
  5. Observation Day: The last class of each session is designated as Observation Day. This is the only day parents may observe, and we do not make exceptions to this policy.
  6. Make-up Classes: Make-up classes are only available if the Y cancels a class.
  7. Gym Access: Only registered gymnasts are allowed in the gym during class time. No one is permitted to be in the gym before or after class.
  8. Behavior Expectations: Participants are expected to keep their hands to themselves and wait patiently for their turn.

Let us know if you have any questions or need further clarification. We're looking forward to a great session with your gymnast!
