At the Y, we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. That’s why our child care programs are staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of kids, the need children have to feel connected and supported in trying new things, and the caring and reinforcement parents and families need to help each other. At the Y, babies develop trust and security, preschoolers experience early literacy and learn about their world, and school-age kids make friends, learn new skills and do homework. Most importantly, children learn how to be their best selves. That makes for confident kids today, and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

The Massillon Family YMCA offers preschool, preschool daycare, a before school program, an after school program, program for school days off and snow day off, and a summer day camp. All focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Families who receive publicly funded assistance from ODJFS are welcome.

Children in either program can participate in various physical activities as well as arts and crafts. Homework help is also available. Before and After School Programs are held at Gorrell Elementary School, Whittier Elementary School, and soon Massillon Intermediate School.

The YMCA also has Before & After School programs in Perry Local's Genoa, Lohr & Watson Elementary Schools. With Perry schools providing transportation for Knapp students to/from Genoa.

School Days Off and Snow Days

When there's no school, planned or at the last minute, the Massillon Family YMCA is ready with fun and learning for children in our before and/or after school program. School Day Off and Snow Day Off programs are open from 6:00 am until 6:00 pm and include physical activities, sports, arts, crafts, and games. We even sneak some learning in there - but the kids never know because they are having too much fun.

We offer a play-based, state licensed preschool program that encourages children to explore their environment as they develop creativity, problem-solving and skills related to cognitive, physical, and social/emotional growth. Literacy, math, science and social studies concepts are taught through hands-on activities.

This preschool program bases the curriculum on real life experiences relevant to children. Our teachers utilize the centers method of small-group instruction and bases lessons on the Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards. We use High Reach Curriculum. This is a research based curriculum in which the children learn through play and child-initiated activities, as well as teacher-initiated activities.

Our goal is to provide a safe, caring and cheerful environment in which children ages 3 - 5 can make friends, learn new skills and continue to develop self-esteem. Combining this age group creates modeling for younger children and teaches socialization and cooperation.

Children ages 3 to 5 and fully potty trained.

Our preschool age day care program runs continuously all year and includes the preschool curriculum as part of your child’s day. Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 6:00 pm
